| Hello Everyone. I'm much more of a lurker than I am a poster, but I wanted to say hello and tell you that I'm very happy to be here.
I have a lifelong interest in UFOs and the paranormal, though, to my knowledge, I have never had any direct experience with any of this. I can't explain my affinity, but it is real.
The closest thing to an encounter I can share with you happened not to me, but to my grandmother. This would have been sometime between thirty and thirty-five years ago, I guess.
My grandparents lived in Somerset, Kentucky. My grandfather owned a barbershop and my grandmother was a housewife. They lived on a good sized piece of land within the city limits, not out of the way or in the country, but the size of their lot--about 3 acres--gave them a good bit of privacy.
My grandfather was a good man, but very grounded in corporate reality. My grandmother, on the other hand, loved the fantastic. She delighted in ghost stories, loved to play pranks, and was just a lot of fun to be around. Maybe that's why she saw the UFO and my grandfather didn't.
It happened late one night when my grandmother couldn't sleep. She was sitting by a window, looking out into the night, when she noticed an unusual light hanging in the sky near the front of their property, maybe fifty yards away. This piqued her interest and she went outside to investigate.
The light was coming from a cigar shaped object sitting in the sky above a large tree in the front yard. My grandmother was brave, but this unknown thing spooked her. She went back into the house and didn't say a word about her sighting to my grandfather. She knew he would not understand and would almost certainly make fun of her.
In fact, she kept her mouth shut until the next day when my grandfather returned home from work. He mentioned to her that several of his customers had told him they saw strange lights in the sky the night before. Armed with this, my grandmother finally told him what she had seen. I have no idea how he reacted, but that has long been my favorite family story.
I like to think my grandmother saw something strange and wonderful. Who knows?
Anyhow, I tip my hat to everyone here. I look forward to reading your posts and maybe occasionally posting a bit myself. | |
