UFOs and the National Security State Vol 1 (2002 edition) by Richard Dolan

First of all I want to thank Lesley for turning me on to this book series.

This is a very comprehensive and well written document of not just UFO sightings and incidents, but the government and military's reaction to it. I could not stop reading this fascinating book, and am taking a breather before I start volume 2. I confess, I stayed up reading this until light started appearing in the windows. Oh, well I am a night owl anyway.

The book has many of the famous cases we have heard about and retells them. The difference is Mr Dolan then goes into what the government reaction was. Using unclassified memos and other documents from the FBI, CIA and other agencies, Mr Dolan gives a rather startling and even chilling account of how the government is involved even though they deny it through existing channels.

It is also good that some of the earlier and misunderstood cases get a look at now, with fresh data released about them. Even Frank Scully's 1950 book has a few high ranking persons interested. The book may be called a hoax now, but some of the stuff written seems to be taken from a truth (Roswell, maybe?).

I urge anyone who is serious about ufology to get this book series and read it. This will open up eyes about the government's involvement. Skeptics should also read this as it shows the government at one point was going to come out and say the flying saucers were extraterrestrial in origin. There is a lot of powerful stuff in this book, and I may start vol 2 sooner than later.

Lloyd -- I am very happy that you enjoyed it! I got side tracked from vol 2 by other things I had to do, but plan to get back to it very soon, maybe even later tonight.

This is one of those books that put both the government response and the UFO incidents together. Add to it many of the older Top Secret programs the government did, and this is one book I just couldn't put down.

I still pick it up to reread parts just to digest the whole thing.

A fabulous read that not only covers how the government reacts to UFOs as themselves, but showing how the security apparatus works in an all around way, thus unveiling why they react to UFOs the way they do. I found it very interesting how the government pounced on the statements of publicly respected scientists who don't believe to call the subject closed. For them, it was almost too good to be true (was it?). You only have to read Philip Corso's The Day After Roswell to know what the US Government truly think of UFOs.

Well researched and excellently documented. I just can't wait to read volume 2.
