Type: Daylight Disks and Lights In Sky

Date: 19th - 20th July and 26th - 27th July 1952



19th - 20th:

Between 23.40hrs and 05.00 hrs, 2 radars covering Washington picked up 8 ufo's in restricted airspace. They flew at between 100 and 300mph (160 - 480kmh) but then increased speed to phenomenal velocities. Airline pilots also reported strange lights in the sky over the capital, behaving in the same fashion.

Jet interceptors, delayed by an earlier investigation of ufo's over New Jersey, arrived at 03.30hrs. The ufo's disappeared, then re-appeared after the jets had departed.

At one point radar controlers following the events at Andrews afb saw a large orange sphere B.O.L. hover over the base.



26th - 27th:

From 21.00hrs, between 6 and 12 ufo's performed similar maneuvers. At 02.00hrs Jets from Wilmington Delaware were scrambled. The ufo's again disappeared from sight and from radar as soon as the jets entered the area. The ufo's returned again when the jets were on their way back to base.

At 03.20hrs new fighters were in the area and the ufo's stayed visible. Lt. William Patterson was surrounded by a ring of enormous blue / white lights which flew off before he was given permission to fire on them.

The USAF explanation for the lights and radar returns was "Temperature Inversions". There were inversions present that night, but not such as to create radar returns.

Blue Book listed the events as "Unknown".

P.S. In 1952 there were also sightings in: Korea, France, Brazil, Utah, Germany, Morocco, West Virginia, English Channel, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Australia, Texas, Italy, and the Gulf of Mexico.

2nd Washington Flap

Type: Multiple sightings, vehicle effects, radar - visual evidence.

Place: Environs of Washington DC

Date: 21st December 1964 - 11th January 1965

21st Dec 64:

Horace Burns was driving between Staunton and Waynesboro on US 250. His car stalled as a huge cone shaped ufo flew across the road and landed in a nearby field. The ufo gave off a blue glow. After a few minutes the ufo took off and flew away

Tests done by Prof. Ernest Gehman and engineers from the Du Pont Corporation revealed a high radiation count where the ufo had landed. The USAF investigation took place 3 weeks later after alot of rain, snow and members of the public trampling around the site. The USAF found no radiation and declared the sighting a 'mirage'. Less than a month later motorists driving along US 60 reported seeing a very similar ufo.

Late in December 3 ufo's were tracked on radar traveling at 4800mph (7700kmh). The USAF said these were not ufo's and that the radar blips were caused by faulty equipment.

11th Jan: Six army signal corps engineers at a munitions building in downtown Washington saw a disc shaped ufo. The ufo was being persued by two jet fighters. Newspaper reporters tried to follow up on the story with the U.S. Department of defence. They were told by both civilian and military officials that the event 'Never Happened'.

Also in 1964

18th April: Radars tracking the first unmanned space capsule launched as part of the gemini program picked up 4 unknown targets closeing in on the capsule. The unknown targets took up a formation around the capsule and stayed with it for an entire orbit. They then dropped away in a orderly fashion before disappearing from the radar screens.

24th April: The landing at Socorro. A patrolman (Lonnie Zamora) saw humanoids standing next to a ufo in a gully. He approached to within 100m and noticed red markings on the side of the craft. No communication took place.

Also that year there was a CE3 on 4th-5th september in california and an alleged ufo crash / retrieval on 10th Dec in Kansas.
