PostSubject: Old article (1947) on find of Disk fragments   Sun Aug 16, 2009 4:05 pm

I found this article from Frank Warren's site The UFO Chronicles:

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_PXeDY3KOwgA/SodGdpMpfQI/AAAAAAAAEho/RJGNmyVf9iA/s1600-h/Fragments+of+Two+Flying+Disks+Reported+Found,+More+Sighted+-+Abilene+Reporter+News+7-8-1947.jpg

It is interesting to note how one witness changed his mind and stated it was a joke. The reporter does some investigating into this story.

Is it just me, or does it seem like there were far more reports of UFO's back when this article was written. I wonder how many sightings spiked in 47? It is cool to read this Newspaper article, thanks Kid

The subject was treated quite seriously and open by everyone until Roswell in July of 1947. After that, while the subject was treated seriously by some journalists, it was hushed up by the Army Air Force. It seems after the Summer of the Saucer in 1952 that UFOs were treated as jokes by the main stream media. For the five years and some time before the silence of the government, the subject was treated maturely by the mainstream media. After that, it did seem that the subject moved on to the usual rags (National Enquirer and Midnight Globe).

I have to constantly remind myself of the History of the Cultural Mindset in our country back then. It was a different time to be sure. The Military must have exhibited such a powerful, threatening force back then! Coming home from Victory overseas. the 40-s and 50's Seemed like a perfect time to be able to ensconce from all public view, the possession of whatever was deemed necessary for National Defense.
Thanks, kidflash you provide an interesting chronology of events, that are telling of how the Gubment has guided this whole issue.

The military wasn't threatening or anything like that, it was the people who kept quiet for the security of the nation. People really didn't start to question things until the late 1950s (and only a handful then). The movement to question the government got kickstarted by the assassination of JFK in 1963 and peaked during the Watergate Era.

In the 1940s and 1950s, the Communists and the USSR were the threats. People were ready to heed any warning to be quiet.
