| Lots of people keep saying there needs to be "proof" that UFOs and Aliens exist. I don't think there is anything that would be presented to most of these people that they would actually accept as proof. Lots of evidence has been provided to back up stories of UFOs and Aliens but these "prove-it" types always reject it. They claim tests were contaminated or inconclusive, photos are doctored or inconclusive, eye witness reports are made up or inconclusive etc.
I've even heard the "prove-it" types say there is NOTHING that would convince them that UFOs are real. Now there's a real open minded approach. This country puts people to death for murder based on evidencial standards less stringent than those used to determine the validity of alien/ufo reports.
While it's quite common for those who believe in ufos/aliens to be accused of lying; the non-believers often misquote, omit substantiating evidence, claim people are mentally ill etc. without anyone saying THEY need to prove their claims.
As for "science": Science is not a static thing. It wasn't that long ago that "scientists" belittled anyone who thought "invisible creatures" were causing illness because there was no PROOF they existed. Yet, germs did and do exist. Sometimes science doesn't have the ability to provide proof. Doesn't mean they won't always be unable to prove something.

| I feel badly for the younger generation today, with computer graphics possibilities screwing up pictures and videos, and all the talk about new crafts that WE allegedly have but no one can prove one way or the other.
I know it's true, and as far as I am concerned I know what is going on. I have tried to tell people things, and PFFT, everyone knows more than I do, but yet no one has a logical counterargument for the facts involved.
There was a time when people read BOOKS; books written by experts in their fields, and cross referenced these books with other books. Today it's just a diet of internet BS; website after website of ungrounded chaotic crap that does nothing but clog the brain and eventually renders it useless.

| Not only do people not read books anymore - they are actually proud of it. Now THAT is just plain sad! | |

| Before I moved, a few years back, people used to say "You have no walls!" because everything was quite literally, floor to ceiling and wall to wall books of all kinds in every room. We started counting once and stopped at nearly 6000 because many of the rest were in boxes and/or storage and not easily accessible. I have since downsized.
Sadly, I wound up sending a truck load of books to be destroyed and recycled because I could find no one interested in having them - even free!!! Most of those were books that were purchased at $50-$300 EACH in subjects like math, history, art, computer science (current) etc. Because they were all non-fiction hard-bound books, no one would take them. And yes, I called libraries, elementary through college schools, clubs, charities etc. (And I lived in a very large city.) It was heartbreaking for me.
On average I read 1-2 books a day, often reading one fiction and one non-fiction alternately throughout the day.

I never did fiction ... doesn't interest me at all; I like hard facts and research. I know what you mean about books all over. I stopped buying in 97 when I moved to N Carolina and could no longer go to places like the Strand in NYC - ad was: 6 miles of books LOL. Upon occasion I would get something from the net, but I put the brakes on. It was getting to be ridiculous. | |

| Granted not all fiction is great but I still enjoy seeing how people use language and written expression. Something well expressed is beautiful. There ought to be more to life than "Just the facts, ma'am." | |
