Welcome to UFO Magazine.

I do think it is possible there may be some alien bases on the moon. The moon is full of raw materials that could be useful to space travelers. Since there is no life on the moon, it would not be a problem for them to mine it. Whether the location is on the dark side of the moon is moot, as they may be able to keep the operations hidden from our telescopes.

The moon does have resources, but mainly in the form of silicates and some water ice. Heavy metals would seem to be rare there from what I've read, though I'm sure prospectors could perhaps find the remnants of iron meteoroids.

It would be efficient to 'live off the land', that is construct your base out of what is available. Stable craters, local cement, ect. I'm not saying that someone couldn't build a big tower there, but I would think that being a resource miser would be a good habit to get into, even a super advanced society of space-farers
