PostSubject: Does anyone here know what the History Channel is going to air on Monday, May 25?   Mon May 18, 2009 4:17 pm

I have seen promos for a show that will air on Monday, May 25th, stating there will be an Earth shaking event. All the channel listings have To Be Announced, and the History Channel has been quite vague about it. The HC's website does not have any information, so I was wondering if anyone here knows anything about it?

Thank you and Goddess bless,

Lloyd

From what I understand Jocariah and Mike Good have arranged a live televised landing of a flying saucer on the front lawn of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in downtown Pheonix Arizona in response to your recnt posts on proof and evidence and my recent posts on the religious aspects.

Hi kidflash2008. Very Happy Your post caught my eye and so does viral marketing - I'm a Terry "Radar" O'Reilly fan. Very Happy

T'would seem a CTer's "Dream Dates" are being cited in the two viral ads released on the Net. Perhaps an already "going-concern" from "alternative-media" is going to "Change Everything" or is that a conspiracy too? Very Happy

If I really, really, really wanted to know before May 25 I'd start with the ad firm. Word-of-mouth. Wink. Very Happy Happy to wait and see and observe how "big" this viral goes Net-wide - seems exponential and with a short-ish fuse. Maybe a bit like the "Drones" and "Alienware" business or something along those lines to support a new vehicle. Very Happy

I'd really enjoy well-made documentaries. I'm often disappointed. Very Happy

I think you very well may be correct Mark. Very Happy

"Darwinius masillae"

A story link that mentions the network and broadcast and the unveiling at the museum today, "47-million-year-old primate fossil unveiled"

Does "Darwinius masillae" fit the hype? Very Happy

If it is that fossil of a lemur, I will be quite disappointed. That isn't anything Earth shattering and it isn't proof positive of Darwin's theory of evolution like some of those stories have one to believe. If it was a link to modern man, then that would be news.

Thank you for your replies,

Ditto here, kidflash2008.

Seems a pretty large build up to "something" which changes very little? I would have thought something as sensational as the viral "billings" would offer "more" somehow. Maybe they have a double-barrel or MRLS "ammo" ready and the lemur thing is a "down payment"? A new paradigm and monetization of some alternative research efforts WOULD be exciting - more interactive and personalized toward the viewer's own life-experiences would engender some interest that an advertiser might find very, very attractive. A global event? OK, I guess.

Would the network not be risking credibility if it were not to somehow be able to justify the hype? "Tin-men" are everywhere, spam too.

I hesitate to be judgmental but I sort of find this sort of thing a bit "off-putting" which is likely what the ad firm involved was trying to achieve. I might be pleasantly surprised but "the thrill is gone" for me in most stuff of that side of "reality" and the "realty" of attention. A nice multi-platform media hub might be one direction networks "could" go.

Here's some bits I jotted down to do with the viral ads:

P.S. Even Google has incorporated the wee-beasty into it's stylizing of it's logo on the Google search page today. It would seem that the MSM "WANTS" this to be "a big thing". OK. Fix' shrugs. Quite a spell they cast broadly? A pretty low-cal diet - that could use more fibre. Very Happy "Tell me why I don't like Mondays."

While there is no listing yet on History (TBD), I think it will be about the fossil. I will probably watch the later showings after my family events.

I was hoping something along the line of finding out that life once existed on Mars. That would be life changing as it would prove life could happen elsewhere.

It is a good way to advertise a show, but the letdown will lead to people not tuning in to other shows that use the same idea.

Edited to add:

The show is called "The Link" and while it has no description is about the new fossil find. It airs at 9pm ET and runs for 2 hours.

from what I've read, they're seemingly presenting this as "THE" missing link, the answer of all answers. From reading it over though, I am not thinking it's as definitive as they're claiming. Quote from the site:
"Scientists have discovered the oldest and most complete fossil of a human ancestor.

An incredible 95 percent complete fossil of a 47-million-year-old human ancestor has been discovered and, after two years of secret study, an international team of scientists has revealed it to the world. The fossil’s remarkable state of preservation allows an unprecedented glimpse into early human evolution. Discovered in Messel Pit, Germany, it represents the moment before anthropoid primates--the group that would later evolve into humans, apes and monkeys--began to split from lemurs and other prosimian primates. This groundbreaking discovery fills in a critical gap in human and primate evolution." (end of the quote from the site)

I have a feeling it's going to be a let down.

They are only making such claims as to get a big audience. The show is on Labor Day, and the other networks either have marathons or reruns. Being the only new show, The History Channel hopes to strike ratings gold. I think they are overdoing it by calling it the find of the century, but then I do not work in marketing.

They were replaced with UFO Hunters. There is always a chance the series could come back, or have some special episodes made.

funny! i just looked up "UFO" hoping to find UFO HUNTERS, and in the on-screen tv listings, UFO FILES came up too. they are airing (old?) episodes on the history channel's spanish-language channel: HIST ESP.

They still do air the older episodes of UFO Files. They sometimes air them after UFO Hunters, and sometimes run mini marathons in the afternoon.

On the show about the missing link Ida, I thought it was a very well done and informative show. It is an important find in that it was a complete fossil that even preserved the lemur like creature's last meal. They did find bones that showed the creature to be an ancestor of both the ape family tree and lemur family tree. So it is a missing link in that sense.

SPEAK OF the devil, they aired an episode last nite after a repeat of UFO Hunter!
it was one of the better made episodes, "Deep Sea UFO's" on of my favorites. I also just finished downloading the complete set of UFO Files via TPB

weird! the tv on-screen listings ever so wrongly posted UFO HUNTERS at 9 and 10, instead of UFO FILES after the rerun of UFO HUNTERS. i was hoping for a few new episodes, but i'm a new viewer, so i'll take what i can get. a week or so ago, tho, i found listings for what looked to be all new episodes! Mad

ps -- what's "TPB" ?

They were going to air a new episode, but it was changed to a rerun at the last minute. Next week there will not be a UFO Hunters episode on at all. They may be holding the rest of the third season for a little later, which is what they do sometimes.

It is difficult to understand what is going through the minds of the programmers.
