In the interest of "less being more," I won't go on for twenty or thirty more lines, eh? Well, maybe not. No promises. [g].

- Hi, All,
Here is the url for the Future Theater radio show in question that has so dominated this thread.
http://www.futuretheater.com/listen-to-past-shows/august-14-2010.html
People who think they are quoting what we said should listen to the show first. Neither Nancy nor I ever referred to anyone's magazine as porn. House porn and food porn are trade terms referring to glossy full-color photo-heavy magazines that showcase product, just like technopoorn and milporn refer to literary fiction genres. Nothing to do with porn qua porn.
For the record, the television show and video "UFO" preceded any trademarks UFO, Inc. registered. Moreover, the cover of that DVD is in the video stream of commerce and not in magazines.
That being said, this railing about what we actually did not say is just like the railing about the letter we did not write. In other words, in a non field full of disinformation, inaccuracies, outright falsehoods, sickening self promotion, and blatant hustling for any buck that can be scraped off the sidewalk, it's no wonder the debunkers laugh at us. Try focusing fury on where it belongs and read before you rant.
And by the way, just for the sake of journalistic accuracy, the word is "serf," not "surf." And that, Mr. Magazine "Editor," just about says it all.
Listen to Future Theater Radio Saturdays at 6 Eastern
Please do listen and make up your own minds which is all I suggested in the first place. When it comes to rants just listen to FT. Serf, surf, who cares, Alfred knows what I mean and so do you Bill. You are a worried man Bill Birnes, worried about what you see as the 'competition'. Fortunately I don't see other publications as rivals or as competition. Instead they are all a welcome addition to the UFO literature. The more the merrier. This includes UFO MAGAZINE. Long may it last. If your rant on FT is just a bit of harmless banter then why didn't you mention the name of the 2 new publications in question ? They are of course 'lousy' in your opinion (your words Bill). You may not have put pen to paper regarding the attorney's letter but it is a collective responsibility you share with UFO MAGAZINE INC. Was it you who tipped them off about our new mag coming out, or as Lesley states they have someone monitoring the net just-in-case ? Here's just a few more quotes for you Bill regarding our 'lousy' magazine (I assume you were meaning UFO MATRIX although you didn't mention it by name): "UFO MATRIX is the kind of high-quality magazine covering UFOs, Aliens and other popular unexplained paranormal mysteries that's so needed in the marketplace. With fewer and fewer publications offering ground-breaking, timely reports and investigations done by knowledgeable journalists, UFO MATRIX is a must read for anyone wanting to stay informed about these fascinating topics." ROBERT KIVIAT, Executive Producer of the FOX Network's "Alien Autopsy: Fact or Fiction?" documentaries and many other Paranormal Prime Time TV Specials. California, USA. "The release of the new magazine UFO Matrix is a very important development for British and Wordwide Ufology. I have received a copy and really appreciated its content and design, and I wish to congratulate Philip and all his crew for the great work. I can see that UFO Matrix will soon replace UFO Magazine's space, Graham Birdsall publication, that we miss so much, as well as him. I sincerely hope that you follow his example of persistance and keep editing doesn't matter how difficult it proves to be, as I have done myself to be at the market for almost 28 years now with the Brazilian UFO Magazine" A. J. Gevaerd Editor, Brazilian UFO Magazine Former coordinator, Brazilian Committee of UFO Researchers (CBU) National Director, Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) You are of course entitled to your opinions Bill and if you think the 2 new magazines are lousy then that's entirely up to you. Personally I would never disrespect a UFO magazine in that manner but that's just me. I had my reservations in the past about a number of high profile publications but kept my opinions strictly to myself. Instead I encouraged those involved, supported them and encouraged others to do the same. So we've had an attorney's letter, a rant on FT, what's next Bill ? I'll reiterate my stance here so there is no misunderstanding. I wish UFO MAGAZINE every success. It's been around for a long time and I sincerely hope it continues to do so for many more years to come. However, I will not stand by and let our new magazine be attacked by anyone and that includes you Bil, Alfred, Lesley, UFO MAGAZINE INC, or anyone else for that matter. If you don't like UFO MATRIX then don't buy it and if you think these postings on your forum are just to obtain a bit of publicity you are sadly mistaken. And that Mr 'UFO' just about says it all. Regards, Philip. PS. All typographical errors courtesy of me. Surf, serf.......................etc.

So, if the Birnes' pay a fee to use the name, then they don't own the name and have nothing to do with the legal notice received by Mr. Mantle?
W-T-F
Now I feel like I understand this situation less than I did before.
I'm just going to forget the whole thing and concentrate on making more UFO PORN magazine covers... Collective responsibility is what I called it. Who tipped off the attorney ? Lesley thinks they have someone monitoring the net just-in-case. I doubt that. Was it Birnes Inc ? That's the issue I have. Regards, Philip.

| I've just been into my local WH Smith on the high street in town, guess what, all copies of UFO MARIX are sold out. No surprise there then.
Here's another quote from another magazine editor who also doesn't see us as 'competition'.
"Thank you, Philip. Sorry I didn't respond before. I also had a glimpse through a copy (UFO MATRIX) at Weird Weekend - it looks a fine publication.Congratulations! " Richard Holland, Editor-Paranormal Magazine.
It might not be easy to obtain Paranormal Magazine outside the UK, but I'd highly recommend it.

| Mantel: Please do listen and make up your own minds which is all I suggested in the first place. When it comes to rants just listen to FT. Serf, surf, who cares, Alfred knows what I mean and so do you Bill.
Lehmberg: You paint Birnes' very cogent paragraph as a rant? This is irony on which one bangs a shin! Kettle? Let me introduce you to pot! Moreover, on the soul of my mother I can't begin to suspect what your on about, Sir. I have no idea "what [you] mean." That's a poor man's debating tool impying the opponent must agree with facts so established they require no citation! Blather-wah, Mr. Mantel! You've established nothing but to be vociferous in the prosecution of your grasping publicity. Don't pretend to put words in my mouth or thoughts in my mind, Mr. Mantel. You lack facility with the former and faculty for the latter.
Mantel: You are a worried man Bill Birnes, worried about what you see as the 'competition'. Fortunately I don't see other publications as rivals or as competition. Instead they are all a welcome addition to the UFO literature. The more the merrier. This includes UFO MAGAZINE. Long may it last.
Lehmberg: Nonsense ... A transparent failure to take high moral ground, Mr. Mantel. See, your collegiality is already non-existent regarding behaviors already displayed. You're a grinning crocodile offering to take the fox across the river on his back. Experience a look askance and arms decidedly akimbo.
Mantel: If your rant on FT is just a bit of harmless banter then why didn't you mention the name of the 2 new publications in question ? They are of course 'lousy' in your opinion (your words Bill).
Lehmberg: All things equal, what can the future of slick-paged, glossy full color, smelly, resource intensive print media be when a better/cheaper/faster/more timely job can be done with light and electricity on an I-pad? It may be that this is enough to make a magazine lousy (my words, Mr. Mantel), which still makes UFO Magazine a lot less lousy than any un-named "other two," eh?
Mantel: You may not have put pen to paper regarding the attorney's letter but it is a collective responsibility you share with UFO MAGAZINE INC. Was it you who tipped them off about our new mag coming out, or as Lesley states they have someone monitoring the net just-in-case ?
Lehmberg: Me. I did it. The secret is out. Not. Still, what does it matter, Mr. Mantel? That upsetting little missive regarded is a result of the trespass you suggested on the internet (Facebook is where I saw it) that the UFO Matrix cover was going to look just like the UFO Magazine Cover. You just got "headed off at the pass," as it were, saving you money in the long run... if you have one. The resulting scuffle endured by one and all is one you foment—and continue to foment—for the purposes of what can only be called, "a pugilistic publicy."
Mantel: Here's just a few more quotes for you Bill regarding our 'lousy' magazine (I assume you were meaning UFO MATRIX although you didn't mention it by name):
Lehmberg: Yeah — well, we'll just snip all that well meaning well-wishing, wishing one well from the community on the start of a brand new effort ... even if that effort, everything working against it, is likely doomed from the start, eh?
Mantel: You are of course entitled to your opinions Bill and if you think the 2 new magazines are lousy then that's entirely up to you.
Lehmberg: We are all, of course, entitled to our opinions, Mr. Mantel, even as it gets a little tedious to be reminded of that by one who so errantly believes that they must have the correct one so are only being gracious in the facile acknowledgment of others. Time will be the deciding judge, eh? UFO Magazine has a couple of decades of momentum as regards that and I suspect is willing to walk little closer to the edge to that end, but I may have a bias.
Mantel: Personally I would never disrespect a UFO magazine in that manner but that's just me. I had my reservations in the past about a number of high profile publications but kept my opinions strictly to myself. Instead I encouraged those involved, supported them and encouraged others to do the same.
Lehmberg: A real moral compass, then. A teacher, leader, and holder of a guiding light. Too, the concern and collegiality of the preceding, extended carte blanche to the un-quickened pages of a periodical, is not in any way shape or form extended to the publisher and editor of said periodical. That's a bust, Mr. Mantel. Your faux-graciousness is as vapid as empty air.
Mantel: So we've had an attorney's letter, a rant on FT, what's next Bill?
Lehmberg: Rant... rofl! I expect you'll find out what's next. We all will.
Mantel: I'll reiterate my stance here so there is no misunderstanding. I wish UFO MAGAZINE every success.
Lehmberg: Oh, you too, Mr. Mantel, you too! No, really! See, I suspect you knew that UFOM had some of the success to which you would allude, too, which is why you elected first to squat on their very cover. How's that working out for you?
Mantel: It's been around for a long time and I sincerely hope it continues to do so for many more years to come.
Lehmberg: No thanks, Mr. Croc... I'll wait or the boat.
Mantel: However, I will not stand by and let our new magazine be attacked by anyone and that includes you Bil, Alfred, Lesley, UFO MAGAZINE INC, or anyone else for that matter.
Lehmberg: Two "L"s in Bill, Mr. Mantel, but I know exactly what you mean. That's exactly the way the Birnes' might feel about someone squatting on their magazine cover, eh?
Mantel: If you don't like UFO MATRIX then don't buy it and if you think these postings on your forum are just to obtain a bit of publicity you are sadly mistaken.
Lehmberg: Oh C'mon... Mr. Mantel do you think such croc-teared drivel will be bought by anyone? I'm not buying and take your best shot.
Mantel: And that Mr 'UFO' just about says it all.
Lehmberg: That last just had me looking own at my plate in embarrassment for you, sincerely.
Mantel: All typographical errors courtesy of me. Surf, serf.......................etc.
Lehmberg: Still,
...Apart from all blaming on "typos" and "quirks"? In context, "serf's" spelling has sure got to hurt.

| Oh my goodness ... I can't believe all this hullabaloo over the word "porn"
The way Bill and Nancy used the word, "porn" was not used in a sexual way at all. They way they used it was to reference subjects they like -- it wasn't sexual at all. The term "porn" is SLANG for when you really, really like something and you look at magazines or videos about that subject. For example, two people speaking to each other about cooking and one says, "I love Food Network Magazine. I read it cover to cover, it's like porn to me!" Get it? Just the way Nancy referenced the food magazine in the podcast. I myself like gardening. I could say gardening books are my "porn"
The fact of the matter is, they were using slang and that's that. If you are too sensitive or unable to remove sexual images from your head when you hear the word "porn" maybe you should just stop listening to the podcast.

You could well be right, the reference to 'porn' could have been lost in translation. It means something entirely different here in the UK. However, calling the magazines in question 'lousy' is the same on either side of the Atlantic. Birnes Inc are just worried and that's what it all boils down to. Worried, worried, worried. There's more to this than meets the eye. Ask around and see who else Birnes Inc have fallen out with in the past. I'm not the first and I dare say I won't be the last either. Regards, Philip.

| Mantel: You could well be right, the reference to 'porn' could have been lost in translation.
Lehmberg: Seems a magazine editor would have some grasp with regard to print lingo, eh? This is forgetting that, given it's your freakin' language, "lost in translation," fails the apologetic cache one would think it had.
Mantel: It means something entirely different here in the UK.
Lehmberg: Yeah... over there it's always about caning and knots. Rofl.
Mantel: However, calling the magazines in question 'lousy' is the same on either side of the Atlantic. Birnes Inc are just worried and that's what it all boils down to.
Lehmberg: Yeah — there is much hand wringing and gnashing of teeth this side of the pond, fer sure. Are you sure lousy means the same thing hither and yon? Over here it means failing due to vermin infestation. Scabrous. Scabe Ridden, but not syphilitic -- so far...
Mantel: Worried, worried, worried.
Lehmberg: Really, why... your rag could be as successful as Stuart Miller's... oh wait.
Mantel: There's more to this than meets the eye.
Lehmberg: That's the kind of thing one says when one has nothing cogent to say, eh? And let's face it, you fail the threshold test for having something to say, I suspect.
Mantel: Ask around and see who else Birnes Inc have fallen out with in the past.
Lehmberg: Forgetting I suspect we could do the same with you —I mean, given your behavior thus far how could we not— I am quite comfortable spitting in the eye of the critic alluded to and billing for eyewash, eh?
Mantel: I'm not the first and I dare say I won't be the last either.
Lehmberg: Oh yeah -- that ilk can be found under any mossy rock, nes't ce-pas?

I think many people take life way too seriously. Especially those upset by words from a lawyer. I have had many words from lawyers, they are not worth being upset about. And those who are worried by new UFO publications coming out take things far too seriously as welll. Regards, Philip.

| While it may be Mr. Mantle's fault for concentrating on the word, porn, no one seems to be addressing that some unknown magazine was called, lousy. There is no misunderstanding of terms. It's just kind of low to say it, but not say it, if you know what I mean.
If Bill & Nancy Birnes just flat-out said, "This UFO Matrix magazine is fukking lousy, and incidentally, they tried to rip off our logo, as well, the filthy bums.", then I wouldn't really have a problem with it. I may disagree, because I don't think the magazine is lousy; Porn, maybe, but not lousy.
I just can't stand that passive-aggressive bullsh!t. If you don't want to be a jerk about it, then keep it to yourself; Don't half-ass it. I'm pretty sure that if it were you speaking on that program, Mr. Lehmberg, you would have said UFO fukking Matrix, and not left it falsely ambiguous.

They should have just said which magazine they were referring to as lousy, instead of leaving it unnamed. I hate passive-aggressiveness. If you want to say something, just say it.
